New, enhanced fan experience awaiting Sun Devil Football fans

Arizona State University isn’t just entering a new era with its move to the Big 12. The fan experience for Sun Devil Football games this fall will be new and improved, as well.

Thanks to a collaboration between the Office of National Scholarships Advisement and Sun Devil Athletics, student-athletes have support when applying for big scholarships — like the NCAA Postgraduate. Two Sun Devils won the award this year.

A record 8 Sun Devil sports programs earn top 10% NCAA APR scores

For the fifth consecutive year, the ASU athletics department is second in the Pac-12 Conference, behind only Stanford, for most teams recognized by the NCAA for their high Academic Progress Rate scores. Eight ASU teams earned APR scores in the top 10%, the most in ASU history.

Anne Kuhm, who is graduating from ASU's College of Integrative Sciences and Arts with a liberal studies major, was named Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2018-2019.

In a paper published April 24 in Science Advances, ASU researchers tested how people interpret the timing and sequence of physical touches. Their findings explain why basketball players are often so adamant they know who touched the ball first.

ASU student-athlete adheres to a higher calling

In the Sun Devil Football Student-Athlete Facility, you'll find an Alumni in the NFL wall with an American flag collage that immediately grabs your attention. It's made up of former Sun Devil student-athletes and coaches who exchanged their maroon and gold uniform for one that represents the red, white and blue. If he has it his way, it won't be long before the headshot of redshirt senior tight end Tommy Hudson will don that wall as well.



Walker McCrae

Sparky is more than a mascot to 2019 Barrett graduate

Walker McCrae, an ASU student set to graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in business data analytics and sports business with honors from Barrett, The Honors College, had an alter ego during his undergraduate years. Unbeknownst to everyone except his closest family and friends, McCrae was one of about half a dozen students who portrayed ASU’s beloved mascot Sparky at games and events.
