No limits to a mother’s love, a wrestler’s determination

Judy Robles was 16 when she found out she was pregnant with her first child, who would later be born with only one leg. As Anthony Robles grew, his mom realized that he defied limitations — "he was going to figure things out." Anthony went on to become an NCAA champion wrestler at ASU, and his life story is now the focus of a new Amazon Prime movie, “Unstoppable."

When Natasha Adair drove to the basket for a layup one October night in 1990, her future was right in front of her. She was a high school senior being recruited by more than 200 college coaches. But as she landed on the court and heard the pop in her knee, everything changed. Adair couldn’t have known then, but that injury headed her down a path that would eventually lead her to become the women’s basketball coach at ASU. “People often ask me if I would change what happened,” she said. “No. It made me who I am.”

ASU staffer's design for outdoor recreation gets national attention

During Charlotte Bowens decade-long journey to improve her health, she created a way to help more people like her become more fit. Bowens, a research administrator at Arizona State University, invented an ultralight hydration vest that’s designed for people with bigger bodies, so they can drink water easily while exercising or hitting the trails.

Sports law and business grad builds relationships through ASU Law program

One of the most memorable lessons Taylor Merwin, a soon-to-be graduate of the Master of Sports Law and Business (MSLB) program at ASU Law, learned as a student was the importance of sowing the seeds of relationships. That lesson will be important in his future career in the sports industry. Between the relationships he has built through the MLSB program and his current position as a community impact intern with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Merwin feels prepared to take the next steps in his career.

Only a year after appearing on the list of notable 2022 graduates from ASU News, soccer star and classroom wizard Lieske Carleer is back on the 2023 list as she graduates with her master’s degree in clinical exercise physiology. Carleer, from Winterswijk, Netherlands, is being honored as the College of Health Solutions' Outstanding Graduate.

Cronkite grad’s love for sports leads to in-game hosting opportunity with ASU Athletics

Courtney Robinson’s passion for sports began as a child growing up in a family where athletics were often the center of conversation. She carried that love of sports through her time at Arizona State University, where she’s graduating with a master's degree in sports journalism at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication while serving as an in-game host for ASU Athletics events.
