No limits to a mother’s love, a wrestler’s determination

Judy Robles was 16 when she found out she was pregnant with her first child, who would later be born with only one leg. As Anthony Robles grew, his mom realized that he defied limitations — "he was going to figure things out." Anthony went on to become an NCAA champion wrestler at ASU, and his life story is now the focus of a new Amazon Prime movie, “Unstoppable."

When Natasha Adair drove to the basket for a layup one October night in 1990, her future was right in front of her. She was a high school senior being recruited by more than 200 college coaches. But as she landed on the court and heard the pop in her knee, everything changed. Adair couldn’t have known then, but that injury headed her down a path that would eventually lead her to become the women’s basketball coach at ASU. “People often ask me if I would change what happened,” she said. “No. It made me who I am.”

Giving wings to a new generation

Retired Air Force Col. Richard "Dick" Toliver says it’s an honor to take a bow on behalf of the Tuskegee Airmen — the first African American aviators in the U.S. military — and has spent a good portion of his life keeping their legacy alive. Toliver was one of 10 members of the Archer-Ragsdale Arizona Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen recognized during a timeout at the Nov. 18 ASU football game, which capped off the university’s 2023 “Salute to Service” campaign.

Ray Anderson steps down as ASU athletic director

Ray Anderson announced Monday that he has resigned as ASU vice president for university athletics and athletic director, effective immediately. Anderson, 69, said it simply is the right time for the move. He will remain at ASU as a professor of practice and senior advisor to help expand the well-respected sports law and business program in the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.

To deal or not to deal: ASU hosts mock NBA trade competition

More than 125 students from 35 collegiate programs across the country came together at ASU's Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in downtown Phoenix to take part in the inaugural Mock NBA Trade Deadline Competition hosted by ASU Law. The event was conceived and organized by a third-year ASU Law student to give students real-world-like experience and make contacts with officials from around the league.

Arizona State University will celebrate those who have served the nation and their communities with an assortment of events held across Phoenix metro campuses for this year’s Salute to Service happening Nov. 8–18.

Legends Luncheon rewinds to the pinnacle of Sun Devil football

This year’s Legends Luncheon, an annual event held by the ASU Alumni Association in partnership with the Sun Devil Club and Sun Devil Athletics, brought attendees back to the pinnacle of football in Tempe, celebrating the team’s three-year stretch from 1971–73 that saw them win the first three Fiesta Bowls.

Hamburgers and high-fives: ASU celebrates 2023 Homecoming

A week of Homecoming activities culminated on Saturday as the Arizona State University community came together to participate in the annual Homecoming Parade and Block Party, followed by a football game against Washington State in which ASU won 38-27.
