Turning that buzzing sound into better computing

Computers usually like quiet surroundings. Noise can tend to disrupt computer processing.

But researchers, including William Ditto, chair of the Harrington Department of Bioengineering in the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at ASU, now say they can make digital circuits that actually help a computer work better by feeding off of a noisy environment.

The engineering that makes this happen could even lead to ways of making electronic devices smaller, more reliable and less expensive.

Science News writes about the discovery, reporting on an article co-written by Ditto in the science journal Physical Review Letters.
