Gym Devils host rival Arizona in first State Farm Territorial Cup meet
Coming off of a victory over California, which saw the Sun Devils score a season-high total of 195.250, the Arizona State women's gymnastics team (2-0, 1-0 Pac-12) hosts in-state rival No. 15 Arizona for the first of two State Farm Territorial Cup match-ups, Friday at 7 p.m. MT at Wells Fargo Arena.
Led by senior Beate Jones' 39.300 all-around score, the Sun Devils defeated the California Golden Bears, 195.250-194.050. Jones took first place on vault and floor in the meet earning a 9.875 in both events. Senior Kahoku Palafox led ASU on bars with a score of 9.850. The Sun Devils are ranked 13th overall in the nation in bars with Palafox ranked 15th nationally.
The Wildcats are currently ranked 15th in the nation averaging 194.763 on the season. Last meet, Arizona fell to then-No. 4 Oregon State in Tucson, 194.825-194.375, on Jan. 20.
The Sun Devils lead the series against the Wildcats in gymnastics with a record of 29-10-1 since 1977.
