Geoengineering would involve endeavors such as using  various technologies to alter the planet's atmosphere to fend off negative impacts of greenhouse-gas buildup and climate change.

The idea was aired for debate recently in the nation's capitol and reported on by the Washington Post.

Brad Allenby, a professor in Arizona State University's School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, took part in the discussion.
