Annual SciTech Festival kickoff conference begins next week

The second annual Arizona SciTech Festival kickoff conference will be held next week at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. This free, day-long event features 16 diverse panelists and a keynote by “Meteorite Men” star Geoff Notkin and Skylab astronaut Ed Gibson.

Presently, 800 people have registered for the kickoff conference, which is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sept. 4. The event is an opportunity for communities to come together to share ideas and make plans for the upcoming 5-week festival that will span from February to March.

“We want people to have fun in learning about science and technology, and learning about our world,” said Bill Petuskey, associate vice president of ASU’s Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development, who works with the SciTech Fest organizing team.

“We want the young people to get interested in this, to seek careers in modern technology where we think society and the economy is going. At the same time, we’re interested in the community becoming well-versed and literate, scientifically,” Petuskey added.
