Women's tennis falls to USC


The 14th-ranked Sun Devil Women's Tennis team put up a fierce contest against the No. 10 USC Women of Troy on Wednesday, but were ultimately overpowered in a 5-2 decision.

Doubles play was a series of upsets for the Devils, as No. 12 Amanda Fink and Gabriela Niculescu upset No. 10 Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKennaAshlee Brown and Sianna Simmons 8-6. No. 62 Sarah Fansler and Lyndsay Kinstler ousted No. 50 Laila Abdala and Nadia Abdala 8-5, taking the doubles point for the Women of Troy. 8-5. In singles play, the shaken Sun Devils had trouble finding their stride as No. 29 Amanda Fink downed No. 71 Micaela Hein 6-3, 6-0 on court 3 and No. 61 Alison Ramos pulled away from Ashlee Brown 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 5 spot. After freshman Sianna Simmons fell to Leyla Entekhabi 6-1, 6-4 on court six, the Devils finally saw a bright spot in No. 3 Kelcy McKenna, who came back strong to pummel No. 15 Maria Sanchez 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot. Undoubtedly the most arduous match of the day came on court two, where Nadia Abdala fought it out against No. 22 Sarah Fansler. Although she dropped the first match 4-6, Abdala came back to upset Fansler loudly and proudly 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).

The Devils will be back in action tomorrow when they take on the No. 9 UCLA Bruins at 11:00 a.m. in Los Angeles.
