Social media site founder to headline humanities lecture series
One of Arizona’s young visionaries is coming to ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus to headline a popular lecture series and discuss the power of connecting creativity and culture around the world.
Blake Brinker’s “Creativity, Technology and Humanity” kicks off the spring 2015 Humanities Lecture Series, as well as Project Humanities, a university-wide initiative to promote the importance of humanities within the higher education system and community.
Brinker’s multi-media presentation will explore the connections between technology and culture, the historical impact of creative expression and its effects and influence today. Brinker is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 12, at the Nursing and Health Innovation Building Two, 550 N. Third St., Phoenix, Innovation Auditorium, Room 110. A question-and-answer series will follow the presentation.
The lecture series, hosted by Arizona State University’s College of Letters and Sciences, is free and open to the public.
The theme for this year’s series is titled “Creativity and Creation Stories.” In addition to creative expression and humanity, the series will focus on a 17th century oratorio by Joseph Haydn and Native American storytelling.
“The Humanities Lecture Series provides us with opportunities to analyze, discuss and interpret current events. We look forward to public discussions that help us understand and appreciate various points of view on political, social and cultural issues,” says Duane Roen, director of ASU’s College of Letters and Sciences and dean of University College. “We are pleased to have Blake Brinker commence the first presentation of 2015.”
Brinker is the founder of CREATIV, a social media platform, enhanced by the newly published monthly, CREATIV Magazine; both embrace creativity of all kinds. The company nurtures an expanding online community, focusing on technology and user engagement; fostering inspiration; stimulating meaningful interaction; propagating a diversity of great content; and supporting a continuous flow of provocative ideas and useful information.
“I have a front row seat in the global theater of creative expression and experience firsthand, every day – the inherent power of creativity in bringing people together, manifesting cultural understanding, tolerance, hope and inspiration,” Brinker said. “Technology is enabling a new renaissance and is the bridge by which CREATIV is connecting creativity and culture around the world.”
Close to 200 countries and well over a million Facebook fans speak to CREATIV’s global reach. For more information on CREATIV, visit http://www.creativ.com/
The lecture series will continue March 19 with David Schildkret’s presentation of “Creating and Recreating Haydn’s 'The Creation.'”
