Nordqvist wins ladies' British Open Amateur

Arizona State junior-to-be golfer Anna Nordqvist won the Ladies' British Open Amateur at the North Berwick Golf Club in Scotland on Sunday, June 15. The native of Eskilstuna, Sweden earned the honor after being a finalist the past two years. Nordqvist defeated fellow Swede Caroline Hedwall by 3 and 2.

Nordqvist came out victorious in a battle of birdies. After the first hole was halved at birdie 3, Nordqvist took the second and third hole with two more birdies. Hedwall came back by taking the fourth hole. The next four holes were halved, including the eighth in birdie 4. Nordqvist went up two after a birdie on the 10th hole, but Hedwall came back with a birdie in the 12th hole to return to one down. Nordqvist returned to two up after hitting a birdie on the 13th hole.

After halving the 14th and 15th holes, Nordqvist clinched the tournament win with a par 4 on the 16th hole. She finished 5-under on the holes played.

With the win, Nordqvist has qualified for the 2008 Ricoh Women's British Open.
