Kennegard wins Las Vegas Tournament

Jesper Kennegard took home medalist honors at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Invitational which concluded Sunday with a 3-over 219 (71-72-76).

He earned the win by one stroke over both Tyson Alexander of Florida (68-80-72) and T.J. Vogel of USC (71-72-77).

Kennegard finished tied for eighth in his previous two tournaments (Battle at the Beach and the USC Collegiate Invitatonal) and entered the tournament with a 72.67 stroke average. The victory was his third individual collegiate title, as he won the 2009 NCAA West Regional with a 12-under 204 last spring and also won the Hawaii Hilo Intercollegiate in January of 2008 with a 13-under 197.

ASU finished sixth at 49-over 913 (305-303-305).

ASU's 15-over 303 in the second round was the second-best round of that day at the Las Vegas area course, which played to par-72 and 7,510 yards. UNLV and UCLA shared team honors at 35-over 899.

Sun Devil Scott Pinckney tied for 31st with a 16-over 232 (79-75-78), James Byrne tied for 35th at 17-over 233 (81-75-77) and Braxton Marquez finished 42nd at 19-over 235 (75-81-79). Knut Borsheim tied for 48th at 21-over 237 (80-83-74).
