Jelmini places fifth in shot put to lead ASU at NCAA Indoors

<a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/stats/2010-2011/compiledres… Stats</a> <separator></separator> <separator></separator> <separator></separator>The final day of competition came to a close at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in College Station, Texas, on Saturday night with freshman <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/jelmini_anna00.html">An… Jelmini</a> finishing fifth in the women’s shot put competition to score for the Sun Devils. Overall, the women scored four points and finished in a tie for 40th in the team race.<separator></separator>Jelmini, in her first NCAA event, came into the meet ranked 14th out of the 21 competitors and hit a big personal-best toss of 17.08m (56-00.50) on her second attempt of the event. That mark put her into the final among the Top 9 where she remained fifth overall to score four points for the team. Her mark also moved her into third on the school’s all-time list and made her just the fourth woman to hit a mark of 17m in competition.<separator></separator>The women’s 4x400m relay also competed on the night and placed 12th overall with a time of 3:35.74. The team was comprised of <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/geren_sarah00.html">Sar… Geren</a>, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/pinnick_keia00.html">Ke… Pinnick</a>, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/sanchez_kayla00.html">K… Sanchez</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/chaney_jasmine00.html">… Chaney</a>.<separator></separator>The USTFCCCA will announce it’s All-Americans later this weekend where it is expected that all seven Sun Devils that competed will attain that distinction.<separator></separator>The outdoor season awaits the Sun Devils next weekend as ASU will play host to the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe.
