ASU shoots 10-under at Alister McKenzie Invitational


Following a second round where all five golfers shot even par or below, the final round of the Alister McKenzie Invitational was unkind to the ASU Men's golf team. The deficit proved to be too much as the team finished tenth with a 10-under 842 (284-271-287). Sophomore Knut Borsheim slipped in the final round to finish 18th with a 4-under 209 (68-65-76).

San Diego State surged ahead in the final round to win the two-day event with a 24-under 828 (281-271-276). The Aztecs defeated the Washington Huskies by four strokes for the victory. Daryl Fathauer of Louisville won the individual title with a 13-under 200 (61-67-72).

Freshman James Byrne finished tied for 20th with a 3-under 210 (73-69-68), freshman Jesper Kennegard tied for 32nd with a 1-under 212 (72-69-71), junior Steele DeWald tied for 58th with a 5-over 218 (75-71-72) and senior Phil Telliard tied for 64th with a 6-over 219 (71-68-80).

The Sun Devils conclude the fall season next weekend at the Isleworth Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
