Abbott named Male Athlete of the Week


<p> Men's basketball player <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/abbott_ty00.html">Ty Abbott</a> has been named ASU's Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 16th. Abbott made his biggest contributions on the season at just the right time, giving the Sun Devils a sweep of the Washington schools and placing ASU (12-5, 2-2 Pac-10) right in the middle of the Pac-10 race. Abbott and the Sun Devils look to continue their strong play as they face Oregon and Oregon State this weekend.</p><separator></separator><p>This past weekend, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/abbott_ty00.html">Ty Abbott</a> recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and career-high 11 boards vs. Washington State in 71-46 win. The junior from Phoenix, Ariz. recorded his season-high in points with 17 in each game. Abbott's strong performances which included averages of 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists a game, propelled ASU to a sweep of the Washington schools. This was the first time ASU had swept the Washington schools at home since the 2002-2003 season. ASU is now 30-7 (.811) when Abbott scores in double-dgits, including 18-3 (.857) in the past two seasons.<!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE --></p>
