The YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix recognized Elsie Moore, Arizona State University School of Social Transformation professor and director, by awarding her with its 2018 Racial Justice Award.

The YWCA is a national nonprofit organization (and a member association of World YWCA) working toward “eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.” The local Phoenix association hosted its 24th annual Tribute to Leadership luncheon on Friday, Feb. 9 at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale. Moore was among seven individual award recipients recognized at the event for outstanding leadership.

“Receiving the YWCA Racial Justice leadership award is especially special to me because my work — my personal work, as well as my professional work — has always been about equality and justice for everyone, especially those who’ve been deprived, and continue to be deprived,” Moore said.

YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix explained, “The mission of the YWCA is exemplified in Dr. Moore’s work. From her work in the Civil Rights Movement to her current work as professor and director of the School of Social Transformation, she strives to create equality and justice for all.”

YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix has recognized more than 250 amazing women through its Tribute to Leadership program.
