To kick off Homecoming 2017 at Arizona State University, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication is inviting alumni, students and faculty to Cronkite Day, an annual large-scale celebration on Friday, Oct. 27.

The sixth-annual event will feature social, career development and networking opportunities as well as a special keynote address and an alumni reception. Cronkite Day is free to attend. For more information and to register, visit https://cronkite.asu.edu/cronkite-day.

“Cronkite Day offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the spirit of our amazing alumni and fantastic students, while also honoring the life and legacy of Walter Cronkite,” said Cronkite School Dean Christopher Callahan. “We look forward to some interesting conversations and some merriment and fun.”

Cronkite Day will include tours as well as a keynote address, highlighting many of the new initiatives and programs at the Cronkite School. The half-day event also will feature a special training session from Cronkite Career Services on LinkedIn for alumni and students.

Cronkite Day will conclude with a special alumni reception with complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the Cronkite School’s First Amendment Forum.

This year’s event also will feature a special trivia night before the alumni reception in which alumni, students and faculty can form teams and answer journalism and Cronkite-related questions for a special prize.

“We’re looking to spark some friendly competition between alumni, students and faculty at Cronkite Day,” said Cronkite Associate Dean Mark Lodato, who will host the trivia night.

As in previous years, attendees can tour the Cronkite School’s state-of-the-art building and visit the Stanley and Erika Tobin Broadcast Center to sit at the news anchor desk, read a news story and take photos.

Launched in 2012, Cronkite Day was established to honor the legacy of Walter Cronkite and the accomplishments of the school that bears his name. The annual event has regularly brought alumni from across the country back to the Cronkite School.

This year’s Cronkite Day is celebrated the day before ASU’s annual Homecoming festivities and football game on Oct. 28. For more information about ASU Homecoming, visit https://homecoming.asu.edu/.
