ASU Herberger College art students present new view of the Old West

Who
Ten students in the ASU Herberger College of the Arts’ School of Art sculupture program present works that examine the contemporary American West.

What
Due West provides a new view of the Old West! Advanced sculpture students from the ASU Herberger College of the Arts’ School of Art deconstruct the romance, myth and legend of the American West to present works that address life in the American West as it really is today. 

As a part of America that is booming in population and opportunities, the Southwest rests on the foundations of a desert ecosystem. The region has moved into an era of intense change and growth, while still yearning for the wide open spaces, freedom and independence of tradition. From artworks that conflate the silhouettes of movie westerns with the new Phoenix skyline, recorded interviews with old-timers and new residents, evocatively trace railways west, or present new views of the open road, these artworks put the spotlight on the challenges of living in the West, both then and now.

Due West is part of OMNIBUS, an exciting major exhibition presented by sculpture students in the ASU Herberger College of the Arts.

This event is held collaboration with sculpture students and faculty members from the Herberger College of the Arts School of Art at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ.

The Ice House, 429 West Jackson Street in downtown Phoenix, in coordination with Phoenix First Friday gallery openings.
