West campus Earth Week features activities and dialogue

April 12, 2007

Arizona State University’s West campus will be the site of Earth Week Festival 2007, April 17-21, complete with a variety of activities, dialogue and the 7th annual AZ StRUT (Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology) Computer Recycle Day.

The Earth Week Festival begins on April 17 with the Clean Cars Show scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. south of the Sands Building.  The display will feature alternative technology vehicles, including hybrid and hydrogen cars.  Speakers include Bonny Benson, assistant executive director at ASU’s Office of Sustainability.

On April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the SUN Devil Sustainability Festival will take place on the Fletcher Lawn, featuring food, music, children’s art, student clubs, and community organizations.  From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fletcher Lawn will be the site of Eating for Sustainability and will include dialogue on the impact of a meat-based diet.

Earth Week Festival 2007 closes with the 7th annual AZ StRUT Computer Recycle Day on April 21 from 8 a.m. to noon.  Sponsored by ASU’s West campus Recycling Services, the public is encouraged to drop off used or obsolete computer equipment, as well as other electronic equipment, to be recycled.  AZ StRUT will be collecting the equipment in Parking Lot 10 on the north side of the campus.

“Earth Week is about connecting with ourselves, connecting with others, and connecting with the environment,” said Daena Reininger, Earth Week coordinator.  “At the same time, this festival gives us a chance to learn more about sustainability and what it takes to ensure a healthy future for our planet.”
