Technology office to transfer mailboxes

July 30, 2007

On Aug. 1, the University Technology Office (UTO) will move all existing IMAP mailboxes over to Gmail for ASU accounts, including those owned by faculty and staff members. Faculty and staff are encouraged to migrate their IMAP mailboxes themselves, and those who do not currently subscribe to IMAP are welcome to create a new Gmail for ASU account. Instructions for both, as well as how to identify whether or not a user has an IMAP account, can be found online in the Gmail Migration Guide at https://techbase.asu.edu/wiki/index.php/Gmail_for_ASU_Migration_Guide.

Faculty and staff who use Outlook or Exchange as their primary e-mail account do not need to migrate their e-mail accounts over to Gmail for ASU and can continue using their Outlook or Exchange accounts on a regular basis.

For assistance in transferring IMAP contact lists or current IMAP e-mail accounts to Gmail for ASU, users should send a request with their ASURITE ID and the items they would like transferred to imap-transfer@asu.edu.

Those users who own an IMAP account they would prefer not be transferred to Gmail for ASU are asked to send an e-mail to helpdesk@asu.edu with a request to suspend their accounts. The e-mails should include the users’ ASURITE IDs.
For additional questions, visit the Web site https://techbase.asu.edu or send an e-mail to helpdesk@asu.edu.
