Taylor Place grand opening set


<p>ASU President Michael Crow and Phoenix Vice Mayor Peggy Neely are among the speakers scheduled during grand opening ceremonies for Taylor Place, new student housing at the Downtown Phoenix campus.</p><separator></separator><p>The Sept. 8 event at 8:30 a.m. will be held in the shade garden of the 13-story tower at First and Taylor streets. Tours of the facility will be offered following opening remarks.</p><separator></separator><p>The first phase of Taylor Place welcomed students to their new home on Aug. 20. In its inaugural year, the first tower will provide 576 beds. An additional 550 beds in a second tower will be available by the fall of 2009. Both towers cover 366,500 combined square feet.</p><separator></separator><p>Students who moved into Taylor Place represented the colleges at the Downtown Phoenix campus: College of Public Programs; University College; College of Nursing &amp; Healthcare Innovation; Barrett, the Honors College; and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.</p><separator></separator><p>Students from the Cronkite School are joining the campus this year as their new state-of-the-art building opens for the fall 2008 semester. The campus is uniquely positioned to serve the needs of resident schools and colleges with major media outlets, non-profit organizations and clinics located nearby.</p>
