Sun Devils reach eighth after round one of Northrop Grumman


The second-ranked Arizona State women's golf team is currently in eighth place after the first round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. ASU shot an 18-over 302 for round one. UCLA is in first place after firing a 4-over 288.

Individually, sophomore All-American Anna Nordqvist shot a 1-over 72 in the first round of competition to tie for seventh. Junior All-American Azahara Munoz and sophomore Juliana Murcia are tied for 19th after shooting a 4-over 75. Sophomore Liisa Kelo shot a 9-over 80 to tie for 65th. Junior All-American Jennifer Osborn is tied for 73rd after shooting a 10-over 81 in the first round. Freshman Ashley Smith, playing as an individual, also shot a 10-over 81 to tie for 73rd.

Leading the competition at 1-under are TCU's Valentine Derrey and Pepperdine's Taylore Karle.

The second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge continues tomorrow at the par-71, 5,912-yard Palos Veredes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.
