Softball finish fall season flawless


TEMPE, Ariz. - The Sun Devil Softball team wrapped their fall tournament season Thursday night with 8-4 and 12-2 wins over Central Arizona and a 9-4 win over Mesa Community College. The wins wrap the 2007 fall tournament season where ASU finished with a perfect 18-0 record.

Game one saw Jessica Mapes and Jessie Ware combine to go six-for-eight with four of ASU's eight runs scored between them as well as driving in two more. In the circle, Mandy Urfer took the win with two K's and allowing only eight hits.

In the second game against CAC, the Sun Devil offense lit up the scoreboard with 12 hits forĀ 12 runs, scoring four in the first, third and fifth innings. Mindy Cowles, Sarah Rice and Mandy Urfer all went 2-for-3 in the game while each scoring two runs apiece. Megan Elliott took the win as well with three K's while allowing only six hits.

In the nightcap, All-American Katie Burkhart allowed only three hits while striking out 12 en route to a 9-4 win over Mesa CC. Jessie Ware and Lesley Rogers both went 3-for-4 with two runs scored each as Mindy Cowles knocked in three RBI to finish out their flawless fall season.

The Sun Devils will return to the diamond in February, opening their 2008 season in Las Vegas at the UNLV Invitational before returning home to host the Kajikawa Classic February 15-17 in Tempe.
