Softball beats Creighton 12-3

Arizona State softball battled high winds at Farrington Stadium in a 12-3 victory in six innings against Creighton on Tuesday night. The fifth-ranked Sun Devils improve to 21-2 and extend the win streak to 17-straight games.

Katelyn Boyd finished the night 3-for-3 with three runs scored and seven RBI. Close behind her were Elizabeth Caporuscio, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, and Haley Steele who was 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Boyd tallied two home runs during the game, a two-run shot in the first and a three-run bomb in the second. It marks the fourth time in her career she has tallied two homers in a single game.

Creighton tied it up 2-2 in the second, following Boyd’s homer with a two-run longball by Bri Lingl. Boyd answered in the third with a home run to center to plate Sam Parlich and Haley Steele, who each reached on singles.

ASU held a 5-2 lead through three complete innings but the Bluejays tallied a solo run in the sixth to close the gap at 5-3.

The Sun Devils made it a 12-3 mercy rule after Caporuscio plated Boyd and Alix Johnson with a single to right. A Haley Steele single scored Caporuscio and Lucy Aubrecht walk pushed around Amber Freeman on a bases loaded walk to make it 9-3. Boyd connected on her third hit of the day with the game-ending double that scored Parlich, Steele and Aubrecht.

Both bullpens saw three pitchers take the circle but it would be Hillary Bach (9-0) who nabbed the win for ASU as Mackenzie Popescue came out after three innings pitched. Becca Changstrom garners the loss for Creighton and drops to 3-4.
