Senior speaks at GLAAD media awards in N.Y.


ASU senior Donald Smith was a guest speaker at the 20th Annual Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards event on March 28 in New York City.

Smith spoke to 1,500 people in attendance about how he was inspired in many ways by his role model, Neil Giuliano, who is a former ASU administrator, Tempe mayor and GLAAD president.

Smith is a national spokesperson for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He is in the Parks and Recreation Management Program of ASU's School of Community Resources & Development.

Among the celebrity guests honored at the GLAAD Awards were Tyra Banks, Suze Orman and Phil Donahue.
