Salcido steers Human Resources helm

ASU announces the appointment of Kevin Salcido as associate vice president and chief human resources officer, effective April 19. Salcido has been filling the role on an interim basis since August 2009, when Matt McElrath accepted a position as chief human resources officer with the University of Southern California University Hospital and Norris Cancer Center.

“As our interim chief human resources officer, Kevin Salcido has led significant improvement in the key business processes for the human resources function in a relatively short time, demonstrating his ability and knowledge,” said Morgan R. Olsen, executive vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer. “We are confident Kevin will continue the momentum of continuous improvement in Human Resources.”

Salcido has worked in the human resources field for more than 20 years, holding executive and senior management positions in the retail, consumer products, newspaper and utility industries. His major areas of interest include employee and labor relations, organizational development and culture, and coaching for performance.

“We are looking forward to Kevin’s continued leadership in the service of ASU’s most valuable asset … its people.  Kevin’s broad experience base and knowledge of ASU provide a great platform for him to provide human resources management leadership for the continued growth of the New American University,” Olsen said.

During the last eight months under Salcido’s leadership, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) has experienced improved effectiveness and ratings.

“Our continuous improvement initiatives are paying dividends as our exception rates are down and our customer service metrics are trending positive,” Salcido said. “But we aren’t going to rest until every process in OHR is as efficient and error-free as possible.”

“Our mission in OHR is very simple – we support those who support student success," Salcido said. "We will be seen as an organization that provides value to faculty, staff and executive leadership as we continue to implement the president's vision. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a member of the leadership team at ASU.”

A native of Phoenix, Salcido holds a bachelor’s degree in justice studies and a master of business administration (MBA) degree from ASU.
