Practice in the pines: ASU Football returns to Camp Tontozona By Lisa Robbins | August 16, 2012 Sun Devil Football renewed a tradition and began weeklong workouts, Aug. 14-18, at Camp Tontozona outside of Payson, Ariz., for the first time since 2007. Players and coaches make their way down to the practice field for the morning practice. Head football coach Todd Graham directs players during the morning practice. Quarterback Michael Eubank (18) runs drills. Aaron Radeau directs his son Jaxon’s attention to activities during practice. The Radeau family, longtime ASU fans, came up from the Phoenix area to watch the Sun Devils work out. Frank Kush talks to players about the history and tradition of Camp Tontozona, much of which is directly attributable to his efforts as coach of the ASU football team from 1958 to 1979. Following the morning practice, players drink from a spring on the campground that’s fed by adjacent Tonto Creek. With their football gear laid out to dry, Ezekiel Bishop, Robert Nelson, Anthony Jones, Viliami Moeakiola, Kipeli Koniseti and Vi Teofilo (left to right) relax outside their cabin before lunch and afternoon meetings. Grounds crew, trainers, coaches and players spread out a tarp to protect the practice field as a thunderstorm threatens overhead. Carl Bradford gets his ankles taped by trainer Chad Walker prior to the afternoon practice. Deantre Lewis (left) and Cameron Marshall prepare for afternoon practice. JJ Holiday (80) runs practice drills during workouts at Camp T.
