New fitness facilities now open at Tempe, Downtown Phoenix campuses

Two new Sun Devil Fitness Complex facilities are now open at Arizona State University: the expansion at the Tempe campus and the brand new facility at the Downtown Phoenix campus. After nearly two years of construction and renovations, doors to the facilities officially opened in August 2013.

To celebrate, the Sun Devil Fitness Complex and the Well Devils are teaming up to present the Bigger and Better Celebration, featuring the premiere of Well Devils Week, beginning Sept. 3.

The celebration is a week-long event that will take place on all four campuses. The ASU community is invited to join the festivities, featuring fitness and wellness activities and demonstrations, tours of the new facilities, giveaways, food, fun and more.

Chris Powell, ASU alumnus and celebrity personal trainer, will be the keynote speaker of the event and will kick off the new fall fitness and wellness programs. Powell will be speaking at 3 p.m., Sept. 6, at the Tempe campus fitness complex and at 7 p.m., at the West campus fitness complex.

In addition to highlighting the new Sun Devil Fitness Complex facilities and Well Devils Week, two new special fitness and wellness programs will be introduced during the celebration: Commit to be Fit: Well Devils Edition and the Cardio Challenge.

Commit to be Fit: Well Devils Edition is an eight-week program designed to support ASU students, faculty and staff as they work to improve their well-being. The Sun Devil Fitness Complex will offer health and wellness resources to help participants be fit in all aspects of life. Apply to participate by completing the online application. Applications are due by Aug. 28. Limited space is available.

Participants will receive free services valued at more than $250, including pre- and post-fitness assessments, weekly personal training sessions, Devil-X group fitness pass, nutrition education sessions and mindfulness workshops.

To learn more, visit the Commit to Be Fit: Well Devils Edition website.

The Cardio Challenge is a competition between the four Sun Devil Fitness facilities to see which one can accumulate the most cardio minutes logged on Sun Devil Fitness Complex cardio machines. Fitness complex members can simply log into the Preva console on any Precor cardio equipment at all Sun Devil facilities during cardio workouts to get involved.

The first 1,000 participants to log 500 minutes will receive a free T-shirt. The individual with the most minutes logged at each facility will win a free iPod. Visit preva.com/en-us/exercisers for details.

Both programs run from Sept. 6 through Nov. 1. For more information, send an email to asufitwell@gmail.com.
