Merging man with machine

ASU Polytechnic engineering professor Tom Sugar and ASU students have been working on a below the knee prosthetic device called SPARKy since 2007. In the January 2010 issue of National Georgraphic, their work is included in an article titled "Merging Man with Machine: The Bionic Age". The prosthetic device, designed, built and tested by Sugar and graduate students, is an example of research resulting in a device that can restore function to handicapped persons.

The story is also covered in The Arizona Republic.
