January 10, 2007
After conducting a national search, ASU selected Matthew McElrath, of Mayo Clinic to lead the university's human resources department. McElrath will take his post as associate vice president and chief human resources officer Feb. 5.

McElrath brings 20 years of experience to ASU and is currently the chair of human resources division at Mayo Clinic Arizona. Prior to Mayo Clinic, McElrath served in the HR department at Scottsdale Healthcare.

As a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, McElrath was recognized by his peers with an excellence award from the organization in 2006.

In his new post, McElrath will lead the university's HR office elevating the quality of HR services and fostering a diverse workplace. He will be responsible for university-wide functions including: benefits; payroll; recruitment and staffing; work/life programs; employee assistance; and learning and performance.

“Under Matthew's leadership, we hope to enhance the university environment where employees share a sense of unity, pride and commitment to ASU's transformation into the New American University,” says Carol Campbell, executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Campbell, who oversees several university departments including financial and business services and facilities, is now going to add the HR office to her portfolio of responsibilities.

“I look forward to working with Matthew and the entire HR staff as we continue to expand upon the many service improvements initiated under Paul Ward and Leetta Overmyer,” says Campbell.
