Law expert comments on cell phone spyware

Andrew Askland, director of the College's Center for the Study of Law, Science, & Technology, recently was quoted in a report on KNXV-TV about spyware for cell phones.

In "Privacy gone: How people can spy on you through cell phones," reporter Maria Tomasch spoke with Askland about advertising on the Web that claims the products can spy on a cheating spouse or track down your children.

"They know they have to advertise it in a fashion that is consistent with the law," said Askland, who teaches a privacy seminar at the law school. "But they know it will be stranger on stranger, and that is clearly illegal."
