Hahn appointed interim director of Decision Theater

September 05, 2007

Jonathan Fink, the Julie A. Wrigley director of the Global Institute of Sustainability, has announced the appointment of Deirdre Hahn as the Decision Theater’s interim director.

Hahn already has assumed her new duties and will continue in this capacity until the search for a permanent director concludes.

“Dr. Hahn has been leading the Decision Theater on a day-to-day basis since the beginning of July, when Rick Shangraw became vice president for research and economic affairs,” Fink says. “This new title formalizes that situation and also reflects Deirdre’s ongoing commitment to help lead the Decision Theater on a course of continued growth and impact.”

Shangraw remains the Decision Theater’s executive director and continues to guide the strategic direction of the organization. The Decision Theater is now part of the Global Institute of Sustainability.

“Deirdre helped establish this visualization center as a place of significant community impact,” Shangraw says. “She’s been here in the trenches since the day we opened our doors more than two years ago. I’m relying on her to lead the Decision Theater team in serving our clients as they look for policy options and solutions.”

In this new capacity, Hahn leads a multidisciplinary team of professionals using visualization, simulation and modeling, and collaboration tools to serve clients ranging from city councils and private developers to researchers and state agencies. Most projects are focused on sustainability and public policy issues related to public health, education, urban growth and environment planning.

Hahn also will oversee project collaborations for public and private regional growth planning in the Middle East and China.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve on this team as we continue to help connect the science of ASU with the needs of the community – in the Valley, throughout the state and beyond,” Hahn says. “I truly appreciate the privilege of being appointed to this interim position.”
Hahn has a doctorate in educational psychology, a master’s in counseling psychology and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from ASU. She holds an affiliated faculty position in the Department of Information Systems from the W. P. Carey School of Business.
