Flexcar merges forces with Zipcar
Flexcar, the car-sharing program that allows customers to reserve vehicles for use by the hour, has joined forces with Zipcar, another leader in the car-sharing industry.
The newly combined company is keeping the Zipcar name – and, just like Flexcar, will offer the ease and convenience of “wheels when you want them.”
The conversion process, which included upgrading the vehicles’ technology systems, replacing signs at the vehicles’ reserved spaces on the Tempe campus and updating the vehicles’ exteriors to feature the Zipcar logo, is complete. Zipcar members can make reservations online at www.zipcar.com/asu.
Current Flexcar members who would like to continue their membership with this car-sharing program are required to have their accounts converted to Zipcar through a simple activation process. Flexcar members should already have received a welcome kit and Zipcard in the mail.
To activate their account, members can log on to www.zipcar.com/flexcar using their Flexcar member number and PIN. Upon activating their Zipcar account, members will receive a driving credit of $25, which is valid for 60 days.
Flexcar members who have not yet received their Zipcar welcome kit are encouraged to call Zipcar customer service at (866) 494-7227 or the ASU Commuter Options office at (480) 965-1072.
Zipcar provides a means for ASU faculty and staff to use an alternate form of transportation to travel to campus, but still have a vehicle available to them should they need to run an errand during the day. ASU students, faculty and staff can join for an annual fee of $35, with no deposit and no monthly commitment. Additionally, new customers will receive a $35 driving credit to use in the first month.
Zipcar members have access to any of the 10 vehicles in the Zipcar fleet parked on the Tempe campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The hourly and daily rates, beginning at $9 per hour, include gas, insurance and reserved parking spaces.
