Ethnoburb new form of immigrant community

The cluster of high-tech companies like Intel and Motorola in parts of metropolitan Phoenix has led to the growth of  “ethnoburbs” in the East Valley, said ASU associate professor Wei Li, in an interview with Eight, Arizona PBS “Horizon” anchor Ted Simons on April 19.

Li has studied and written widely about these new kinds of immigrant communities in the United States, where highly educated, largely middle-class immigrants live and work and businesses have sprung up to cater to their needs and interests.

Li holds appointments as associate professor of Asian Pacific American Studies in the School of Social Transformation and of geography in the School of Geographical Sciences & Urban Planning, both schools in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
