Doctoral student honored by Time magazine

Time magazine has honored  Arizona legislator Kyrsten Sinema, a doctoral candidate in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' School of Social Transformation, as a “rising star of American politics.” The feature story, in the October 25 issue, is titled “40 Under 40: New Civic Leaders.”

Sinema, who is completing a doctorate in justice studies and has represented District 15 in the Arizona House of Representatives since 2004, is the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Judiciary Committee and was elected by her peers to serve as assistant leader to the Democratic Caucus for 2009-2010. She is running for the state Senate in the November elections.

Time’s first-ever 40-under-40 gallery of political changemakers profiles young candidates, strategists, leaders and office-holders who are “at work trying to fix a broken system – and restore faith in the process.”
