Brady Rodgers, Deven Marrero named to USA Collegiate National Team
Arizona State sophomore right hander Brady Rodgers and sophomore shortstop Deven Marrero have been named to the Team USA Collegiate National Team. The team will begin its summer schedule with seven games against teams from the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Rodgers (Richmond, Texas) and Marrero (Davie, Fla.) will participate in the 15-game schedule, including a match-up with the NECBL All-Stars at Fenway Park. After its series of games against the NECBL, Team USA will play at the Gastonia Grizzlies on June 30 before participating in the inaugural Prospect Classic, July 1-2, pitting the Collegiate National Team against the 18U National Team for the first time in USA Baseball history. Many of the nation's top prospects are slated to play in the two-game series, which will be held at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C., and the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C..
The Collegiate National Team's summer will conclude with a five-game series against Japan, which begins July 3 in Durham and will conclude July 8 in Omaha, Neb., at TD Ameritrade Park. The teams will also play in Cary on July 5 and in Kannapolis, N.C., on July 6.
With two members this year, Arizona State now has sent a total of 18 student-athletes to play for the Red, White and Blue. Last season, Drew Maggi played for Team USA before signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates. This is the third time ASU has sent two players in the same season, joining 2000 (Jon Switzer and Casey Myers) and 2007 (Brett Wallace and Petey Paramore).
