Bender comments about Sotomayor


Professor and Dean Emeritus Paul Bender of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law recently was quoted by The Arizona Republic as saying U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor's background as a New York prosecutor might make her more conservative on criminal-procedure questions than retired Justice David Souter.

"You might disagree with her decisions, but there's no hint of her saying, `I'm going to do what I want to do and who cares what the law says and who cares what Congress says,'" Bender told Republic reporter Dan Nowicki. "She doesn't have any agenda, as far as I can tell. She's not a flaming liberal."
