ASU's sport clubs end semester on high note

Organized and run by students, Arizona State University's Sun Devil Sport Clubs compete against universities across the country. The ASU clubs span a diverse array of sports – everything from cycling to soccer to equestrianism. This past semester, many of the 36 teams won national championships, and also gave back to their communities. Here are just a few of them.

Founded in 2008, the ASU equestrian team is ranked first in the West Coast Conference. The mission of the team is to create a fun, encouraging and competitive atmosphere for both new and experienced Arizona State riders.

While some ride horses, others ride wakes. ASU's wakeboarding team – the Wake Devils – won their first national championship in 2013.

This past April, the Wake Devils defended their national championship, coming in first place once again.

The ASU men's ice hockey team also had a taste of national championship glory when, in March, they won the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Championship.

Not to be outdone, the No. 1 ranked ASU men's lacrosse team won the regional championship and took second place in the national championships in May.

In February, cheer won first place in the West Coast Championships.

The men's gymnastics team landed its 14th national championship in April.

Women’s rowing had a strong finish to their season, competing in the championship race at Lake Natoma in Folsom, California, at the end of April.

Volunteering their time in February, the men's rowing team took part in the sixth annual Helping Hand Run 5K/10K benefiting Hospice of the Valley.

The men's rugby team attended the third annual Polar Bear Plunge in Tempe last January to help support participants in adapted-recreational programs.

The Dancing Devils were among six sport clubs that participated in the annual ASU Dance Marathon, which took place in February and helped raise funds for Phoenix Children's Hospital.
