ASU Salute to Service celebration in review

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences held a Salute to Service Reception, where the college's students, faculty and staff who are active military or veterans were honored for their service, on Nov. 5.

Arizona State Navy ROTC Marine Options set up on the Tempe campus to celebrate the United States Marine Corps’ 239th birthday, complete 1,775 pull ups (the year the USMC was born) and relay run 239 miles (its age).

Lt. Col. Daniel Roberts, Army ROTC professor of military science, completed 20 pull ups to help the USMC reach their target number. Both pull up and running goals were achieved in about 30 hours, according to Brandon Bogyos, a member of ASU NROTC Marine Options.

Phillip Wieser was serving in Afghanistan, but surprised his two sons and wife when he ran onto the field at Sun Devil Stadium to greet them. The surprise homecoming was emotional for the family but the stadium cheered.
