ASU grads see increase in employers recruiting, hiring

Good news for new ASU graduates: ASU Career Services has seen a 27-percent increase over last year in the number of positions posted online through their Sun Devil CareerLink jobs database. In addition, recruiting organizations conducting on-campus interviews and attending career events also has increased 13 percent from last academic year. Attendance and student recruitment activity also has increased.

ASU Career Services held a Collegiate Job and Internship Fair in February that attracted 147 employers, a 25-percent increase over last year, when 118 employers attended.

“This is a sign of better economic times,” said Elaine Stover, director of ASU’s Career Services. “We saw a 14-percent increase in student attendance at this year’s collegiate career fair, with 1,664 students compared with 1,460 in 2011.”

Based on the Graduating Student Survey issued to students through the University Office of Evaluation and Educational Effectiveness (on behalf of Career Services), of those seeking employment, more than 84 percent of students graduating in 2011 reported having received or accepted an offer by 90 days past graduation.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ average salaries comparison, recent ASU undergraduates earn an average of $42,192 annually upon graduation, compared to the national average of $41,707.

Some of the major employers hiring ASU graduates in 2011 were: Amazon, American Express, Apple, Bank of America, Banner Health, Boeing, Charles Schwab and Co., Deloitte and Touche, Enterprise, Honeywell International, Intel, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Target and Wells Fargo.

The Wall Street Journal ranks ASU as No. 5 in the United States for producing graduates with the skills to succeed in the workplace. This is exemplified in a recent comment by Nellie Erickson, Target’s senior field campus recruiter, who said, “we always find a talented pool of students who are eager to gain real life experience and expand their knowledge.”
