Actor Edward James Olmos talks with students about being 'Americano' October 15, 2010 Edward James Olmos visited the Centennial Class of professor Tom Martin at Barrett Honors College. Olmos discussed a core text for the course, "Americanos: Latino Life in the United States," a photographic book he produced and helped edit. Students discussed the various images in the book, as Olmos explained some of the challenges faced when taking the series of pictures, most of them done by award-winning photojournalists. Centennial Class students discussed issues of race, politics, filmmaking and the making of "Battlestar Galactica." During the class, Olmos explained he wanted to publish the book as a way to simply acknowledge the existence of Latinos in the United States, but most importantly their diversity. Students flip through "Americanos" and discuss various social issues along with the contributions of Latin Americans. Cassi Wenzel, religious studies major, poses with Olmos.
