Herberger Institute Professor Liz Lerman to present FRANKx Rhodes Lecture
Renowned choreographer, performer, writer and educator Liz Lerman will be presenting a virtual FRANKx Lecture on Wednesday, April 27. Lerman is an Institute Professor in the School of Music, Dance and Theatre, in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.
Lerman’s lecture, titled “Critique is Creative: Feedback Dialogue in Teaching and Learning,” will explore questions of critique within academics, challenging instructors and learners alike to consider the scope and limits of feedback within teaching, coaching and mentoring.
The lecture will be moderated by last year’s inaugural FRANKx lecturer, Andrew Maynard, associate dean of the College of Global Futures. The FRANKx Lecture Series highlights Arizona State University experts and provides the opportunity to share their ideas to help challenge, disrupt and redefine the status quo of higher education.
Lerman is the recipient of numerous honors, including a 2002 MacArthur "genius grant" and a 2011 United States Artists Ford Fellowship in Dance.
Her most recent work — “Wicked Bodies” — premiered April 14 at Sonoma State University in California. It will be performed at Jacob’s Pillow this summer before coming to the ASU Gammage "Beyond" series in the fall.
The lecture will be presented at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27. A “deep-dive discussion” will immediately follow at 2:30 p.m. The event is open to the community.
