The field of sustainability is continuously evolving, and Debbie Namugayi has experienced it firsthand.

Namugayi, an Arizona State University School of Sustainability alumna, is a sustainability professional working in various industries to create sustainable outcomes. She is now working to make a difference in a new role at VOX Global. As a vice president focused on environmental, social, governance (ESG) and corporate social responsibility (CSR), Namugayi is responsible for ESG reporting and CSR strategic counseling for clients.

"Revolutionary changes are occurring in corporate sustainability as ESG disclosure continues to be adopted by businesses and required by governments and investors around the world," Namugayi said.

"This shift toward consistent sustainability disclosure through various frameworks and ratings represents vast improvements and accountability in sustainability activities and communication on these activities for businesses around the world."

Namugayi's time at the School of Sustainability helped prepare her for this new role. Earning her Master of Arts in sustainability in 2014, she learned to understand complex issues around sustainable development and climate change. And, as her field evolves, she sees even more opportunities becoming available for other alumni.

"The growth of sustainability reporting for business means that future School of Sustainability graduates and students will have the chance to look for roles implementing sustainability initiatives and reporting sustainability activities," Namugayi said.

"My biggest point of advice is to learn how to tell your story about why sustainability interests you. Being able to package yourself in a field this broad helps you realize where you’d like to take your career after graduating, and it allows you to stand out to employers."
