Women's tennis closes out UC Davis


The Sun Devil women's tennis team topped UC Davis 7-0 on Sunday afternoon. In doubles action, Sianna Simmons and Ashlee Brown defeated Lauren Curry and Ellie Edles 8-2 at the No. 3 spot. Kelcy McKenna and Micaela Hein dropped 3 games in their victory over Megan Heneghan and Kelly Chui to earn the doubles point for the Devils. Jacqueline Cako and Michelle Brycki completed doubles play with a 8-5 win over Dahra Zamudio and Nicole Koehly.

"I think everyone kept their composure," said James. "The doubles was done very well."

In singles action, senior Kelcy McKenna was off the court first with a 6-3, 6-3 win over UC Davis's Dahra Zamudio. Junior Michelle Brycki put away Nicole Koehly 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. Hannah James defeated Kelly Chui 6-2, 6-3 and senior Micaela Hein also dropped five games in her win over Ellie Edles. Playing at the No. 2 spot, freshman Jacqueline Cako won her match 6-3, 6-3. Senior Ashlee Brown dropped a tough first set 4-6, but came back to win the second set 6-1 and took out Lauren Curry 10-4 in the match-breaker.

It was a good day at the office," James said.

Next weekend the Sun Devils take on South Carolina in Miami, Florida.
