Women's swimming and diving downs Oregon State


The Arizona State women's swimming and diving team came away with a win over Oregon State. The Sun Devils defeated the Beavers 154-129 to move to 6-3 (2-2 Pac-10). Several Sun Devils came away with individual victories.

The Sun Devil 400 medley relay team got the day started off right as Jamie Martinez, Penelope Yamauchi, Caroline Kuczynski and Katie HaronCassie Morrice continued the momentum as she took first in the 1000 free, clocking in at 10:18.04. combined to blast past the competition to claim the win at 3:47.88.

Morrice's fellow freshman Paige Schultz notched a victory in the 200 free, hitting the wall at 1:50.37. Sophomore Penelope Yamauchi took first in the 100 breast, clocking in a time of 1:04.15. She also had the fastest 200 breast time of the day, swimming 2:19.29 in an exhibition.

Junior Katie Haron took first in the 50 free, coming in at a speedy 23.76. Shannon Landgrebe, who has already earned an NCAA "B" cut this season, clocked in at 51.65 to win the 100 free. Sophomore diver Marissa Johnson swept the diving events. She earned scores of 259.05 and 284.85 in the 1-meter and 3-meter respectively. Both scores are NCAA qualifying scores so she will now be making the trip to Austin with her fellow teammates.

For the first time this season, Martinez competed in the 500 free. The versatile swimmer won the event, clocking in at 5:06.17. Senior Ashley Evans earned a victory in the 200 IM, racing away with a time of 2:05.64. The 400 free relay A team took first in the final meet of the day, as the team of Schultz, Haron, Landgrebe and Evans combined for 3:31.16.

The Sun Devils will head to the Bay Area next for two Pac-10 dual meets against Cal and Stanford. They will take on the Golden Bears on Jan. 22 and the Cardinal the following day.
