Tennis Devils wrap up Freeman Memorial
<p>The Arizona State women’s tennis team wrapped up their last day of play at the Freeman Memorial Tournament on Sunday.</p><separator></separator><p>The Sun Devils fell short in their doubles semifinals matches. Senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/brown_ashlee00.html">A… Brown</a> and junior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/simmons_sianna00.html"… Simmons</a> lost to McCall Jones and Maya Johansson of UCLA, 8-1. Seniors <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/mckenna_kelcy00.html">… McKenna</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/hein_micaela00.html">M… Hein</a>, who were ranked second overall in the tournament, succumbed to Maria Sanchez and Kaitlyn Christian of USC, 8-5.</p><separator></separator><p>The women won all but two of their consolation matches. Sophomore <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/james_hannah00.html">H… James</a> took on Laura Slater of UNC, defeating her 6-4, 6-4. Simmons won against Elizabeth Ecker of Stanford, 6-1, 6-4. Senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/brycki_michelle00.html… Brycki</a> swept Lauren McHale of UNC, 6-1, 6-4. McKenna triumphed over Alex Cercone of Florida in two tough sets, 7-5, 6-4. Brown lost to Jelena Durisic of UNC 6-3, 6-4. Hein fell to Jo Mather of Florida, 6-2, 6-2.</p><separator></separator><p>The Devils will return to Arizona and face Iowa State on Jan. 21 at the Whiteman Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m.</p>
