Swimming rearranges top 10 list at Mizzou Invite


The Arizona State swimming and diving teams continued invitational action as they saw several of the school's top-10 lists rearranged. At the Mizzou Invitational, the women's swimming team remained in second place behind host Missouri with 602 points while the men moved up to fifth place with 251.5 points. Diving also competed at the Ohio State Invitational.

Xavier Mohammed won his second individual event of the meet as he made his way onto ASU's all-time list in the 400 IM. The sophomore clocked in at 3:52.24 to enter at fifth all-time. In addition, the Londoner earned an NCAA "B" standard in the event, his second of the season. On the women's side, freshman Paige Schultz also entered the Sun Devil's top-10 list. With a time of 4:20.42 , she is now 10th in Sun Devil history. Schultz won the event by approximately three and a half seconds over fellow Sun Devil Ashley Evans. Evans touched the wall at 4:24.13 to place second. Jamie Martinez finished fifth at 4:26.36 while Penelope Yamauchi came in sisth with a time of 4:27.83.

Freshman Caroline Kuczynski clocked in a time of 55.05 in the 100 fly to win the event. With that time, she entered ASU's top 10 list at seventh. Lizzy Luttrell placed fifth after finishing in 56.31 while Shoshanna Rutemiller was eighth with a time of 57.33. On the men's side, James Rigg won the "B" final with a time of 49.83.

An NCAA qualifier last season, sophomore Jordyn Green won the 100 breast. The Reno, Nev., native clocked in at 1:02.47. Teammate Sara McDaniel hit the wall at 1:04.09 to place sixth. Jesper Akesson placed sixth in the men's 100 breast, earning a time of 57.30.

Freshman Cassie Morrice earned a personal best in the 200 free as she finished runner-up. The Canadian swam to a time of 1:49.52. Her fellow freshman Shannon Landgrebe came in fourth with a time of 1:51.19 while Samantha Caldwell placed eighth in 1:54.77. In the "B" final, Katie Haron out-swam the rest of the field, earning a time of 1:52.04.

One of the Sun Devils' top utility swimmers, Martinez, took second in the 100 back. The California girl finished in 55.13 to finish right behind Missoui's Dominique Bouchard. Rigg won the "B" final, finishing in 50.76.

The relays fared well for the Sun Devil women. The all-freshman 800 free relay team of Morrice, Kuczynski, Landgrebe and Schultz were runner-ups, finishing in 7:25.43. The men's team of Mohammed, Nolan Ruane, Adrian Kirkpatrick and Caleb Veazey clocked in at 6:48.96 to place fourth. In the 200 medley, Marinez, Green, Kuczynski and Haron teamed up for a time of 1:43.35, placing third.

Elina Eggers came in eight on the 1-meter, earning 282.9 points in the final. Ciara Geller finished 12th with 242.75 points. Cameron BradshawChris Pasanella also competed, scoring 267.8. placed 13th in the 3-meter, scoring 297.65 in the process.
