Sun Devils qualify for Waste Management Phoenix Open


<p>Arizona State senior Braxton Marquez and junior Phillip Francis qualified Monday for the 2010 Waste Management Phoenix Open held at the TPC Scottsdale Championship Course. Qualifying as amateurs, Francis and Marquez were two of four golfers making the final cut for the PGA Tour event, played Feb. 25-28.</p><separator></separator><p>Competing in the prequalifer on Feb. 18 with over 150 golfers, the Scottsdale natives advanced with the top-80 golfers into Monday's qualifying round played at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club Pine Course. Francis shot the low-round of the day, carding a 5-under 67, while Marquez shot one stroke off with a 68.</p><separator></separator><p>The Arizona State golfers join professionals Bret Guetz of Fresno, Calif., and Ben Fox of Sherman Oaks, Calif. as the winners of Monday's qualifying round.</p><separator></separator><p>Francis and Marquez will be playing in one of the PGA Tour's premier event with fellow Sun Devils <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/reavie_chez00.html">Chez Reavie</a>, Billy Mayfair, Pat Perez, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/quinney_jeff00.html">Jeff Quinney</a> and 2005 Masters and 2006 PGA Champion <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-golf/mtt/mickelson_phil00.html">P… Mickelson</a>.</p><separator></separator><p>Francis tees off on the TPC Scottsdale Championship course 10th hole at 8:49 a.m. and Marquez will tee off at 1:29 p.m., also at hole 10.</p>
