Student ambassadors program launches

December 29, 2006

ASU's Global Student Ambassadors, an initiative newly established by Anthony “Bud” Rock's Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement, recently played host to a visiting delegation from Turkey.

Students Mustafa Erdem, Murat Karates, Ismail Karates and Burak Semiz joined Rock and Dawn Kallestad, director of the Office of Global Engagement, in playing host to Irfan Erdogan, president of Turkey's Board of Education, and Omer Balibey, head of the General Directorate of Teacher Training of the Turkish Ministry of Education, to discuss teacher training and distance learning. ASU and Turkish representatives are forming strong ties through such visits.

As one of the Rock's first initiatives, the Global Student Ambassadors program is designed to assist in playing host to guests from all over the world, and to provide international students an opportunity to exchange views with their home country colleagues about their experiences at ASU.

The students are an important cultural and linguistic asset in welcoming international visitors as the university explores ways to collaborate across nations.
