Softball sweeps Creighton
A perfect 3-for-3 day with a home run and four RBIs from Lesley Rogers as a highlight marked the close of the 2011 Wilson/DiMarini Invitational Sunday afternoon as the No. 7 Sun Devil Softball team topped Creighton 11-1 (5). Dallas Escobedo took the win to push to 10-0 on the year as ASU improves to 17-1 on the year and extends their winning streak to 13 games.
The Jays actually snaked their way onto the scoreboard first in the game as McKenna Setlik pulled a full count in the second inning before crushing a solo shot to left center to give CU the 1-0 lead. The lead’s life span proved to be short as the Sun Devils rattled the cage in the next inning, putting four runs on the board from an RBI ground out by Talor Haro and a three-run shot from Lesley Rogers.
Escobedo didn’t need any more than that as she settled down to keep the Jays bats at bay throughout the rest of the duration. The Sun Devils decided to be a bit more offensive though as they came out to put five more on the board in the third with Annie Lockwood putting the cherry on top in the fourth inning with a solo shot to center field to give ASU all the cushion they needed and more to give Escobedo her tenth collegiate win.
The Sun Devils head back into action this week as they set to take on the Creighton Jays again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
