Simon named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Arizona State junior guard Dymond Simon was named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week according to an announcement by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen on Monday.
It is the second career conference player of the week honor for Simon, who averaged 15.5 points and 4.5 assists while connecting on 60 percent of her field goal attempts (12-20) in ASU's wins at Washington State on Thursday and at Washington on Saturday.
In Thursday's win at Washington State, Simon scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half to help the Sun Devils turn what was a 5-point lead early in the second half into a 19-point win. Simon also added three assists and one steal while making 67 percent of her field goals (6-9).
Simon would once again lead the Sun Devils in their victory at Washington as she scored 17 points and tied her career high with six assists, the fourth time she has accomplished the feat in ASU's last six games.
Simon, who is currently ranked seventh in the Pac-10 in both scoring (13.7 ppg) and assists (3.5 apg), has led ASU in scoring in each of the Sun Devils' last five games. She has averaged 17.2 points and five assists and connected on 53 percent of her shots during that period, including 50 percent (8-16) from beyond the arc.
Currently on a seven-game winning streak the Sun Devils return to action on Thursday night when they host Oregon at 6:30 p.m. in Wells Fargo Arena. The Sun Devils will then close out the weekend on Saturday when they host Oregon State at 4 p.m. Saturday's game, which will be televised live by Fox Sports Arizona, will be ASU's annual `Pink Zone' game to help raise breast cancer awareness.
